The movie is a master-piece. Under Kubricks direction, Jack Nicholson gives the greatest performance of his career. The Shining will scare the hell out of anyone. In one scene the boy discovers the word murder written on a wall. He, however, views the word on a mirror, and thus reads it in reverse as redrum. He then proceeds to mutter the word redrum in an supernatural manner at various times throughout the movie. The crazed character played by Nicholson chases his son through a maze of tall chaparral hedges during a blizzard. The scene is incredible and so is the entire movie. Next, they come across the wrathful and sullen. They are stuck in the marshland of Styx. The sullen were drawn within themselves and tried not to associate with others in life, they took a sour disposition towards life.Their punishment is appropriate because they are stuck at the seam of the marsh, beneath the slimy surface. Moving along through Hell, Dante and Virgil come across the heretics. This is a sort of a transitional stage between the sins of incontinence and violence.
